Joel "Radio" Ellis, the grieving man shot and killed last week Tuesday in Mayaro, is expected to be buried near the grave sites of his mother and sister at the Radix public cemetery on Thursday.

Ellis’ funeral will take place at his home at Logwood Trace, Mafeking Village in Mayaro, relatives said.

Two co-workers/friends who were wounded in the shooting, have been discharged from the Sangre Grande hospital.

Ellis, also called Duncan, was the father of two. He and his co-workers were building a wall at a house at Naparima/Mayaro Road in Mafeking when a man walked up to the three and started shooting. The gunman ran off, and Ellis died at the scene.

Four days earlier, Ellis bade farewell to his only sibling, 38-year-old mother of three Joanne Ellis. She had cancer.

Ellis and his sister were the only children of Lucille Ellis who died in July 2020 after a stroke, relatives said.

They said the mother and daughter were buried next to each other at the Radix cemetery.

No one has been arrested

Mayaro and Homicide Bureau Region II police are investigating.
