An Enterprise man was in critical condition at hospital on Thursday evening after an alleged shootout with police.

Kerron Alexis, one of the sons of murdered businessman and alleged crime lord, Selwyn “Robocop” Alexis, was reportedly shot by police at Dass Branch Trace, Enterprise, Chaguanas around 2.25 pm on Thursday.

In an interview with Newsday, DCP Curt Simon denied reports on social and mainstream media that Alexis had been killed.

“The gentleman was shot. He is not dead as is being reported.

“The car was stopped in a police exercise. He drew a weapon on the police officers and they returned fire. A gun with an extended magazine was recovered.”

Alexis was said to be driving a heavily dark-tinted white Toyota Axio. Two other men who were in the car were also taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility by police. Police did not give details of their injuries. Alexis was reportedly shot 14 times.

Police said around 2.15 pm, four officers were on enquiries in Enterprise when they saw the car coming out of Kenny Cyrus Street, heading onto the Southern Main Road.

They turned on their lights and siren in an attempt to stop the car.

The report said it turned onto Dass Branch Trace and stopped.

The officers got out of the police vehicle and were interviewing Alexis when they saw what appeared to be a gun. The report said one of the officers became fearful for his life and in keeping with the use-of-force policy, shot at the men.

The car drove a short distance before coming to a stop. The men were taken out of the it.

In a video on social media, a woman is heard crying and appealing to the officers to take Alexis to hospital as the police cautioned someone on the scene from entering the car.

The woman said, “I don’t know if you all are real officers.”

Asking for an explanation about what happened, she was told, “There was a gun,” causing her to wail louder.

The Alexis family has been plagued by gun violence.

On July 17, 2016, Robocop, head of the family, was killed during a shootout at a car-wash he owned. During his lifetime he was arrested and charged with crimes ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, extortion, and perverting the course of justice. None of the charges ever stuck.

In the years following, two of his sons and a brother were killed.

Six months after he was killed, his younger brother Mervyn Alexis was gunned down as he stood at Railway Road, Enterprise, Chaguanas.

In July 2021, Robocop’s stepson Colin “Kudoes” Alexis was gunned down while sitting in his vehicle at Jack Terrace, Enterprise.

In April 2023, Umar Alexis, another son, was one of two men killed by gunfire at Bhagaloo Street, Enterprise.
