Tribe’s 6 bands rise with Sunset WKN
Carnival band Tribe hosted its second of three Sunset WKN events last Saturday at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain. The band’s Rainforest theme for 2024 decorated the venue, as die-hard Tribe revellers were welcomed with fog machines, trees and gorillas at the entrance.
The much anticipated presentation of costumes began with a video presentation which included legendary masman Peter Minshall. A spoken word performance by actor/musician Nikolai Salgado under a huge tree, which was placed in front of the eight feet high stage followed. “Wherever people meet there is a Tribe,” he said, which spoke to the ability of humans to find similarities amongst themselves wherever they are. Since Tribe launched in 2004 several changes have occurred. The most noticeable is the joint venture with other mas bands.
Under the Tribe banner are Bliss, The Lost Tribe, Harts, Rogue and Pure. Each band also presented their contribution for 2024 on Saturday night. The Lost Tribe presented on Friday with a full theatre show at Adam Smith Square, Port of Spain.
The sections presented were Boa by Richard Dookhdeen, Guazu by Lana Nobrega, Aja by Monique Nobrega, Jumbie by David Dewer, Nais by Keisha Als, Argia by JP Richardson, Turure by Gail Cabral, Flameco by Natalie Fonrose, Scorpious by Shawn Dhanraj, Iere by Monique Nobrega, Colibri by Anya Elias, Ara by Natasha Marshall and Monstera by Solange Govia.
The Sunset WKN ended with a Sunset jam at Anchorage, Chaguaramas on Sunday.
