Akim Toussaint retires from 11-a-side Trinidad and Tobago hockey team
Trinidad and Tobago men’s hockey player Akim Toussaint has announced his retirement from the 11-a-side version of the game following the conclusion of the team’s appearance at the Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador.
Toussaint ended his career on a high as he helped TT earn a silver medal at the CAC Games. He is expected to continue playing hockey 5s which is a format comprising five players on a team. Toussaint, known for his goal scoring ability, represented the national team for over 15 years.
“I thank you all from coaches to managers, everybody that played a part in my career,” Toussaint told his team-mates in a Facebook video.
Toussaint said some of his “best years” of his life was with the TT hockey team.
Former TT player Darren Cowie in a Facebook post, said, “Akim has given over 15 years of national service to the TT hockey men's national team and has done it with a number of goals, medals and other accolades. Akim it was a pleasure to play alongside, coach alongside you and now coach you for this final tour.”
Cowie is now the national men’s hockey coach.
