Beadland: An adventure in creative crafts
With the new school term a mere two weeks away, there are still quite a few activities for children. Introducing Beadland, a unique and interactive adventure specifically for children and teens produced by Bead Cafe, a retail store dedicated to beading and jewellery-making, located on Mucurapo Road in Port of Spain.
Catering to children ages three and up, Beadland is a day of crafting and creativity aimed at stimulating the imagination of children and teens. It has already been hosted at Bead Cafe itself earlier this month, as well as pop-up venues including The Falls in Westmoorings and is in San Fernando today, at C3 Centre, from 11 am to 6 pm.
With a full day of activities planned, children have the luxury of choice when they spend time at Beadland. From beading, charm bracelet making, colouring, hair bow making, sand art, storytelling, face painting and games, such as ring toss and a treasure hunt, Beadland is certainly an immersive experience with no shortage of activities to stimulate the imagination of the children present. Additional activities include making your own treats such as snow cones, ice cream sundaes and hot dogs. This truly creates an interactive, fun and enchanting adventure. All of these activities fall under crafting and the Beadland team believes that it teaches children to follow instructions, improves fine motor skills, boosts self-esteem and promotes problem-solving.
Bead Cafe opened its door in 2009 and was the first retail store dedicated to beading and jewellery-making in TT. It was started by creative entrepreneur Tameika Fletcher-Birmingham and stemmed from her love of jewellery-making.
