The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has donated two laptops for students in the area to use at the new library and study area at the Port of Spain South constituency office.

A statement from the HDC said the laptops were delivered to MP for the area Keith Scotland by Minister in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development Adrian Leonce and HDC managing director Brent Lyons at the HDC head office on Wednesday.

It said the donation came after a request for assistance from the MP's office.

“This contribution is in keeping with the HDC’s corporate social responsibility efforts which focus on helping young people in communities close to the organisation’s head office on George Street,” the statement said.

It also said that over 100 young residents of HDC communities in East Port of Spain have benefited since 2018 from the HDC's Back to School drive, in which the corporation provides schoolbags, lunchbags and stationery to primary-school students.

In August 2020, the HDC also gave out 50 schoolbags to students from Eastern Boys' Government Primary School, Nelson Street Girls’ RC and two communities in Belmont.

“Notwithstanding our fiscal challenges," it said, "the corporation will continue to support initiatives which uplift the youth in our communities especially during the covid19 pandemic.”
