THE new Trinidad and Tobago Television (TTT) Limited is scheduled to commence operations on August 30. Communications Minister Stuart Young made this disclosure to reporters at Port of Spain City Hall yesterday. While the new company was set to launch in July, Young said that date has been pushed back. “I was told that the first time that TTT in its first incarnation went live was on Independence Day, August 31, 1962,” he said.

Against this background, Young said, “So I am now aiming for the 30th of August, at that stage to roll out new programming.” While new logos have been developed for the new company, Young said this by itself did not constitute a re branding or a relaunch of TTT. Disclosing that he met with the board and management of Caribbean New Media Group (CNMG) earlier in the day, Young said, “We just shared some very interesting ideas.”

He added, “I have some very interesting ideas for news going forward.” CNMG chairman Lisa Agard confirmed the launch date for TTT Limited was August 30. Agard said people can expect to see “a lot more local content” coming from the new company. She explained that everyone at the company is committed to producing content that people will want to see on television and hear on the radio. CNMG started operations in 2005. following the closure of TTT in January of the same year.
