Massive not so Massive

THE EDITOR: Permit me a space in your daily newspaper to express my utter disgust, disdain and contempt for Nermal Gosein, better known as “Massive Gosein” and his Rowlee Mudda Count song.

This song is downright insulting and has a lot of racial overtures and connotations.

The lyrics in it are quite distasteful, but when I looked at the video, I said, “This man has lost his mind!”

Imagine in 2018 you have Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley’s mother (African) being portrayed by someone with what appears to be blackened skin make-up – such that you can barely see the person’s eyes – big buttocks, shaking her backside, on a so-called garden/plantation. What is even more incredulous is the blatant arrogance of Massive in his response.

But you know what, this is par for the course because in 2015 you had Vernella Alleyne-Toppin dragging his deceased mother’s name in the Parliament, saying that she was raped by his father and he is a by-product of such.

She is not here to defend herself and honour, and then they will tell you respect women.

We in TT love to boast about how we get along, racial harmony, peace, respect, how a Mosque, Temple, Church stands side by side and no conflict, but I must say in the last seven years, in TT the racial divide has widened.

We want to bury our heads in the sand like ostriches, and fail to realise that tensions are getting worse, you have Sat speaking, politicians making absurd comments/statements, you have a social media page that says Kick out, but when you read the posts and the comments and remember election night 2015 you know things are not going to get better any time soon.

Where are the women’s groups, like WOMANTRA, PLOTT, those so-called women’s arm of political parties, Activists, Emancipation Support Committee, N-Jack, Black Agenda, Black-Caucus, where are the prominent men/women, where are the chambers, to name a few, they are all a bunch of bandwagonist, with double standards.
