San Fernando's Ameerah Beekhoo tops SEA

AMEERAH BEEKHOO of San Fernando TML Primary school placed first in this year’s Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) exam, Education Minister Dr Nyan Gadbsy-Dolly has revealed. She spoke at a function at her ministry on Thursday. The youngster passed for Naparima Girls' School in San Fernando.

Girls took the top three spots in the SEA exam, continuing a traditional dominance. In fact, Gadbsy-Dolly indirectly revealed that girls took the top six spots, as the highest placed male student had placed seventh overall.

Placing second was Anjaana Dan of Trinidad Renaissance Prep School in San Fernando. who also passed for Naparima. Sushmita Ramsawak of Gandhi Memorial School came third.

Gadbsy-Dolly said this year the ministry was stepping beyond just the top three performers to recognise also the top male student, top special-needs pupils, and top pupils from challenged schools. Vineet Ramsarran of Eniath’s Preparatory was the top male pupil.

The top pupils from special-needs schools were Mattia Street from Cascade School for the Deaf and Jordan Thorne from Audrey Jeffers School for the Deaf.

Five pupils were recognised as exemplars to their peers in challenged schools. They are Shanira Beebakhee of St Helena Hindu School, Adrianna Kerr of Morvant New Government School, Elisea King of Cumaca RC School, Princess Ramlal of Siparia Road Presbyterian School, and Jewel Vaughns of Fifth Company AC School.
