NIB needs plan now
THE EDITOR: Once again we are hearing about the pending situation at the National Insurance Board (NIB). How often are we going to hear the same complaint?
It is being said that if nothing is done in relation to funds at the NIB the possibility exists that they could be broke within twelve years. Again, I must say thank you for an early discovery but the nation has heard this several times before.
The citizenry would now like to know the plan in the mind of those in charge for dealing with this pending disaster. Is it that we are going to wait until the mess hit the fan to act? Come on NIB. Too much is at stake here. Thousands of citizens and companies have invested in this fund and I would hate to see it go bankrupt since there is sufficient time to avoid this.
The time is now to make the necessary recommendations and implement them as soon as possible.
I believe we have efficient advisers in TT with the relevant know-how to handle this matter. If not, there is always good advice available abroad. The heart of the matter is that we cannot allow this scheme to fail because many of our citizens would suffer. That is where the rubber meets the road.
So I am, once more, appealing to the relevant authorities: let us act before it is too late. Do what is necessary.
