Thank you Arrive Alive
THE EDITOR: Thank you to Mrs Sharon Inglefield of Arrive Alive for actively lobbying and championing road safety in Trinidad and Tobago. Your hard work was seen on November 19 at the event in commemoration of World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims 2017.
I saw hundreds of stakeholders turn out to mark the local observation of the day. The event was indeed a success. Road safety, although taken for granted by many, is extremely important. It can be adopted by simple methods such as: using walkovers; drivers obeying the speed limit; being courteous and sharing the roadway with key road users such as cyclists, motorists and pedestrians.
I was elated to see cyclists both young and old and by extension, the Cycling Federation in full attendance. All of these efforts are inspiring to me because six years ago I lost a loved one in an accident. It really warmed my heart being with other people who also experienced the loss of loved ones in this way. Also, thanks a lot to the Ministry of Works and Transport for displaying their support. I saw the traffic wardens and other staff at the event. I even saw the Minister of Works and staff on television informing the public of the countless measures being implemented by the Ministry of Works and Transport including the amendments to the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act. I hear that it will modernize and upgrade the way road safety is being handled.
I am kindly appealing to all road users to observe the road’s rules and to please look out for all cyclists, other motorists and pedestrians.
