Why all the digital talk?

THE EDITOR: On November 27 I went to the Arima office to have my driver’s licence renewed.

As proof of address I presented a printout of my online, current T&TEC bill, which has my name and address on it (I pay my bill online).

The clerk informed me that was inadequate. I stressed to her that the address on the bill was the same as on the expired driver’s licence, and therefore I did not see why it could not be accepted.

She insisted that I must go to the T&TEC office to get verification.

When I asked she informed me that I had one hour to return if I were to be attended to that day. The obvious alternative would have been that I would have had to set up a new appointment.

Fortunately I was able to return in time. I asked to see the person in charge to seek verification about the process. The gentleman to whom I was sent informed me that the clerk’s instruction was the required procedure.
