A 28-year-old man has been detained in connection with the shooting death of vendor Mark Quashie, 32, while he was selling at the Chaguanas market in March.

On August 2, Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three, police confirmed that the murder suspect, 28, from Enterprise, Chaguanas, was in custody. Investigators were preparing a file to be sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

On March 16, around 3.15 pm, Quashie was at his fruit and vegetable stall in the market when a masked man shot him in the presence of customers and other vendors. Quashie and the gunman then scuffled.

Quashie, who was also a stick fighter, managed to run to the back of the market along Eleanor Street and into a nearby casino, where he collapsed.

The gunman ran off.

Quashie was taken to the Chaguanas Health Centre, where he died shortly after arrival.

PC Lall of the Homicide Bureau is continuing investigations.
