3-year wait for car lands businesswoman in court

A 41-year-old businesswoman has been granted $175,000 bail charged with the fraudulent conversion of $143,000.

Terkessa Brereton-Duncan appeared before Master Shabaana Shah at the South District Court in Princes Town on July 22.

The master adjourned the case to February 20, 2025.

The charge stemmed from a report that Brereton-Duncan received multiple payments totalling $143,000 between March 2021 and July 2021 to buy a roll-on roll-off Honda Vezel RS hybrid car.

The car was due to be delivered within two weeks of the full payment.

However, despite the payment being made, the car was not delivered and attempts to have the money refunded proved futile.

On July 18, police at the Fraud Squad Office in San Fernando received information and went to an address at Cipero Road in San Fernando, where they arrested Brereton-Duncan.

The next day, acting W/Cpl Lively-John charged her.

W/Snr Supt Phillips co-ordinated the exercise, which Insp Bachoo, Sgt Bassarath and acting Sgt Lewis led. It included acting W/Cpl Lively-John and PC Ali of the Fraud Squad as well as W/Cpl Didier of the Guard and Emergency Branch.
