Students learn Spanish through culture at the Select Institute of Foreign Languages

Students from the Select Institute of Foreign Languages (SIFL) are complementing their learning of the Spanish language through the culture of Spanish-speaking countries.

The SIFL gave a presentation about the Dominican Republic at its headquarters, Princess Margaret Street, San Fernando on October 20.

Yorley Méndez, director of SIFL said the students participated in several activities that allowed them to learn about the Dominican Republic, its culture, traditions in the Spanish language.

“We are trying to make learning dynamic, not only learning the words, but also getting them interested in knowing about those countries where Spanish is spoken.”

SIFL is a language academy registered and authorised by the Ministry of Education. It has successfully facilitated language learning and cultural exchange for foreign and local students in an interactive and dynamic way for more than 13 years.

“Students from different parts of South America and the Caribbean have had the great opportunity to learn, practice English with SIFL and interact and enjoy the culture of Trinidad and Tobago.

Now local high school students enjoy a great cultural exchange, Spanish practice, exposure to the different accents of Spanish speakers and access to support lessons for the preparation of the CSEC, CAPE, DELE and IELTS exams. We also offer corporate Spanish training.”

On this occasion, the students exchanged ideas and questions directly with the Dominican Minister Counselor Acacia Peralta. She guided the students on each tour of the culture of her country.

During this event students from ASJA Boys College San Fernando, Presentation College San Fernando were also present.

“It is a step towards personal development, especially for these young people who seek to prepare for the future. Having knowledge of several languages is key to achieving professional goals. Today more than ever, locals are interested in learning Spanish and other languages and this is an example of the country’s development, said Méndez.
