Aalisha Alexis claims women’s A title at Classified Tennis

AALISHA Alexis stormed back to win the women’s A division singles title with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Jordane Dookie in the East Clubs Classified Tennis tournament at Trinidad Country Club in Maraval, on Saturday.

Dookie was cruising in the first set as she opened up a 5-2 lead.

Alexis showed character and fought back to win the opening set 7-6, before sealing the title with a 6-3 win in the second set.

In the men’s A division semifinals, Akiel Duke and Nabeel Mohammed both defeated their opponents to book a place in the final.

Second-seeded Duke prevailed with a 6-1, 6-3 win over fifth-seeded Ethan Wong and top seed Mohammed advanced as Seve Day was forced to retire with Mohammed leading 3-2 in the first set.

In the men’s B division semifinals, Kale Dalla Costa booked a spot in the final with a 4-1, 5-4 victory over third-seed Adisa Idemudia. Fourth-seed Clint Singh joined Dalla Costa in the final with a 5-3, 4-2 win over second-seed Nathen Martin.

In the women’s B semifinals, third-ranked Areatha Francis upset first-seed Gabriella Prince and Em-Miryam Campbell-Smith got past Lily Lanser 4-1, 4-1.

In the women’s C division semifinals, Aeryn Daniel-Joseph outlasted Hana Romeo 4-0, 4-1 and Kennedi Mc Phee defeated Jemma Taklal 4-2, 4-2.
