Three men have been arrested at sea for having prohibited animals on Tuesday morning.
Reports are, at about 8.30 am, coast guard officers intercepted a boat in the Gulf of Paria in Cedros while on patrol.
The officers found parrots, macaws, bullfinches and monkeys which they seized. In the water nearby, they also saw several dead birds. The officers believe the men threw the birds overboard on seeing them causing the animals to drown.
The coast guard officers handed the trio over to game wardens who were expected to charge them. Once charged, they will face a Point Fortin magistrate.
