Food card holders topped up for 3 months

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services (MSDFS), on Monday, said all recipients of food support under the covid19 social support measures have been topped up for a three-month period.

In a release, the ministry said temporary food cards for families with children registered on the School Feeding Programme and cheques or direct deposits related to food support, have received their total amounts which represents a three-month supply of food for April, May and June accordingly.

Since the launch of the initiative on March 23, the ministry said all 41 members of parliament have been provided with food cards to distribute to households.

“For people with cards valued $510, an additional $450.00 was added ($150 per month for three months), for those with cards valued at $650, an additional $900.00 was added ($300 for three months).

“For recipients with cards valued at $800, an additional $1,350.00 was added ($450 per month for three months).”

The ministry said people who have applied before the onset of the pandemic and were awaiting determination of their applications for food support, have also received support in the sum of $1,530 which represents a three-month payment for April, May and June.

The ministry said it remains committed to bringing relief to those who have been negatively affected by the covid19 pandemic to ensure that no one is left behind as the country begins to chart the road to recovery.
