THE EDITOR: Given that the world has been turned upside down because of the covid19 pandemic which has resulted in millions of people being forced to stay home, online education has become of greater significance than before.

Our country is no different, with teachers utilising online learning systems to ensure their students receive an education despite not being in school.

Consequently, I commend the Ministry of Education for taking steps to ensure that any teething problems with its online learning platforms are ironed out as quickly as possible. By so doing, our students will be able to maintain a culture of education and not fall behind in their studies.

Teachers will also be able to further practise their online teaching skills learnt from the ministry’s online programme for teachers.

Scores of teachers have graduated from this programme, which demonstrates that the ministry is in step with the high-tech educational demands of the 21st century.

I understand the ministry had been planning to implement the online teaching platforms for several months, which it has now done in this stressful time of covid19.

I also learnt the ministry continues to work closely with stakeholders to ensure the online education platforms are accessible to all students.
