Boy, 17, charged with murdering Dr Sharma and suspect
A 17-year-old boy is expected to appear before a San Fernando magistrate on Wednesday to face six charges arising from the January 15 kidnapping of two doctors, one of whom was killed.
The youth, who lives at Embacadere, San Fernando has been charged with two counts of murder – that of Dr Rudradeva Sharma, 38, and the teen’s alleged accomplice Akeem Marine, two counts of kidnapping Sharma and his colleague Dr Prem Naidoo, 37, and two counts of robbery with violence.
Police said the teen, who turns 18 in May, is nursing an injury to the left shoulder and one to the back of the head. He will be assisted by police officers to the courthouse where he is expected to appear before senior magistrate Jo-Anne Connor.
Sharma and Naidoo were allegedly accosted on Rushworth Street, San Fernando, after completing their night's shift at the San Fernando General Hospital. Reports are that they were bundled into the trunk of the car they were in.
One of the accused allegedly drove off but crashed the car on the north-bound lane of the Solomon Hochoy Highway near Macaulay. Sharma was found dead in the car. Naidoo sustained minor injuries and was discharged from hospital.
Marine, of Lady Hailes Avenue, died at the hospital two days later.
Another suspect, Antonio Francois, 19, of Bamboo Village, La Romaine, has already appeared in court and remanded into custody for murdering Sharma and Marine.
