Phone thief jailed

A 27-YEAR-OLD man who stole a shopper’s phone at the Port of Spain Market in December appeared before a magistrate yesterday to answer the charges.

Amir Ghany of Freddy Street, Aranguez, appeared in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ 4A Court, where he pleaded guilty.

He was sentenced to 20 days’ hard labour. Ghany was arrested at his home on Friday after enquiries by Cpls Dwayne John and McShine of the Port of Spain City Police.

Police said the victim put her phone on a counter while shopping at the market and when she checked it was gone.

She bought a new phone and synced her missing phone’s number to ner new account, where she was able to see selfies taken by Ghany with his location on.
