RECENTLY established squash coaching school, iSquash Academy TT, has opened a newly-renovated squash court at Bmobile Building, 53 Abercromby St, Port-of-Spain.

The court was used for squash by previous tenants roughly 25 years ago, and more recently by employees of the current tenant for recreational activity, prior to a partnership between bMobile and iSquash Academy.

ISquash was formed and launched last May by instructors and former national players Roger Salandy and Bridget Poon, who previously practised at Cascadia Squash Club.

Salandy, a former national coach, said,"We saw it fit to maintain continuity in the development of the game of squash through our mature and junior players in TT."

He added, "The academy presently has 30 members, which is an ideal amount in order to focus on individual development. Most of these members are junior players which is a good sign for the future of the sport.

"Our vision for the game is to develop young players to a level compared to that of other young players throughout the Caribbean and by extension the world."

Isquash Academy TT has hosted two level I and one level II coaching courses in Trinidad, both of which were piloted by acclaimed squash tutor Paul Selby, who is the director/founder of Off The Wall Squash Academy in the UK.

"We have also partnered with Off The Wall Squash Academy for long-term development of our beloved sport in TT and the Caribbean. As a result to these coaching courses, six level two coaches were legitimately certified as England squash coaches and some 15 others were certified level I coaches," Salandy said.

He said there are several events planned for this year, including a refereeing course and another Level II coaching course.
