Cops tell family: Don't negotiate with kidnappers
Police investigating the kidnapping of Chaguanas businessman Sheldon Sukhdeo have advised his relatives to stop secretly negotiating with the kidnappers for his release.
Sukhdeo’s relatives received a phone call last week demanding $2 million, and were given proof he was still alive when they spoke with him for a few minutes.
Afterwards they reportedly began negotiating with the kidnappers without informing investigators. A senior officer said the family had been advised about their secret negotiations, but continued them.
Newsday was told that apart from a cash ransom, the kidnappers are also demanding some illicit items.
Today marked 12 days since Sheldon, 31, was snatched by men dressed in police uniform in a dark SUV with flashing blue lights.
