TT, UK forge stronger security ties
MINISTER in the Office of the Prime Minister Stuart Young yesterday spearheaded talks in London aimed at strengthening security ties between TT and the United Kingdom. A statement from the OPM said Young held several meetings with top British security agencies on national security matters of mutual interest to both countries. These meetings included discussions with the National Crime Agency, the Counter Terrorism Command of the Metropolitan Police as well as other agencies.
Young’s meetings with British security officials came after his speech at a Commonwealth Countering Violent Extremism side event. The minister gave participants an idea how TT was treating with the issue. Young was congratulated on his presentation. There were also presentations from Pakistan, Nigeria and Kenya.
Young first spoke about the security talks in London at a post Cabinet news conference at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann’s on April 12. He said these talks and the joint TT-US Fused Response exercise taking place in TT this week, were not related to statements which Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley made in February with respect to the existence of ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) terrorist cells in this country. The statement concluded that Rowley and his delegation, “continue to ensure that the country is well represented in London.”
