THE EDITOR: Daily, writers are saying that all companies run by the State have been losing money and have been overstaffed for years. The PNM has been in power most of this time since independence, so this must be the best it can do.
Trevor Sudama wrote that “infrastructure should be more directly geared to stimulate the sectors earmarked to propel the diversification thrust,” with the intention to export and generate foreign currency, which is in short supply now.
Building more roads can wait for the future when there is money available. TT is in a recession and needs to turn things around now to create jobs for those being sent home.
Diversifying the economy has been suggested since the 1950s but as soon as the oil prices go up again, this country will once again be dependent on oil and gas. That will be the number one industry and the first priority. Will we ever learn?
