Maxi fares go up on East West Corridor
Passengers using the Priority Bus Route can expect an increase in maxi taxi fares from Monday. President of the the Route II Maxi Taxi Association Linus Phillip said the increase was necessary after diesel prices were increased in the 2017-2018 budget.
“The budget had a big part to play in this. We were paying $1.50 (per litre for diesel) when passengers were paying $7 from Port-of-Spain to Arima.
Now we have to pay $3.41 a litre. The passengers are not upset because they were expecting it (the increase),” Phillip said.
The fare from Port-of-Spain to Arima has been increased from $7 to $8, while the fare to Sangre Grande was increased to $13, a $2 increase.
The La Horquetta route went from $8 to $9 and Maloney from $7 to $8. Short drops were increased from $4 to $5.
Taxi fares from Arima were increased from $5 to $6 from the junction and $7 to the interior.
