PNM picks Borel for PoS South, Dillon for Toco/Sangre Grande
OLYMPIC shot put finalist (2016) Cleopatra Borel was chosen as Port of Spain South prospective candidate by the PNM screening candidate on Thursday, party PRO Laurel Lezama told Newsday on Friday.
The incumbent, former minister Marlene Mc Donald, did not present herself for screening.
Newsday called Mc Donald on Friday for a comment and she answered, but then the phone line then went dead.
While New National Vision leader Fuad Abu Bakr visited the Queen’s Hall screening venue, he was not screened, Lezama confirmed.
The PNM chose former cricketer Mervyn Dillon for Toco/Sangre Grande, replacing Glenda Jennings-Smith, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of National Security and a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police. Robert Le Hunte, former public utilities minister, was screened for La Brea, along with incumbent former energy minister Nicole Olivierre, but the constituency executive was asked to widen its pool of nominees, Lezama said.
Diego Martin Regional Corporation chairman Symon de Nobriega was chosen for Diego Martin Central.
Point Fortin Mayor Kennedy Richards Jnr was selected for Point Fortin, the seat now held by Housing Minister Edmund Dillon.
Clifford Rambharose is prospective candidate for Oropouche East.
