Coast Guard officer charged with assaulting woman

COAST GUARD officer Cyrus Seegobin appeared before a San Fernando magistrate yesterday.

He was arrested on Sunday and taken before Magistrate Alicia Chankar to answer a charge that on Sunday, at Palmiste Park, near San Fernando, he cuffed a woman who had her one-year-old daughter with her. He is also charged with breaching a protection order.

Seegobin, 32, pleaded not guilty to the charges which stemmed from a report Balkissoon made at the San Fernando police station. PC Shawn Lall investigated and arrested Seegobin.

He was accompanied to court yesterday by a senior member of the Coast Guard. Chankar granted him $20,000 bail and adjourned the matter to January 28.
