Sinanan, Blake capture badminton singles crowns

RENALDO SINANAN and Nekeisha Blake captured the men’s and women’s singles titles respectively, on Friday, as the National Badminton Championships ended at the Chinese Association, St Ann’s.

Sinanan, the top seed, rebounded from dropping the opening set to defeat Germany’s Milind Ogale 19-21, 21-18, 21-11 in the men’s singles final.

In the women’s final, Nekeisha Blake, who was seeded number six, eased past number one ranked Avril Plaza-Marcelle 21-18, 21-12.

Blake and Plaza-Marcelle featured in the women’s doubles final, but the second seeded duo fell to the number one ranked Leanna Castanada and Latoya Walrond 21-15, 21-15.

Also on Friday, Nathaniel Khillawan and Roger Moore teamed up to beat the second seeded pair of Alviero Alvada and Shiva Persad 21-15, 21-15 in the men’s doubles final.

Plaza-Marcelle did not go home empty handed, as she partnered with Naim Mohammed to overcome Khillawan and Chequeda Deboulet 19-21, 21-15, 21-17 in the mixed doubles.

And, in the Masters doubles, Ronald Clarke and Andre Lewis triumphed 21-18, 21-13 over Kario Bernard and McKenzie Joseph.
