Unions playing dirty to secure Sandals victory
THE EDITOR: When you score an own goal you place victory within the grasp of the opponent. TT tourism is seeking to move up to Group A in the big money stakes, but the trade union movement appears willing to snatch victory by pulling the jersey or kicking knees and ankles in order to hinder the progress of the Sandals project.
I am looking at World Cup games where famous players are being prevented from scoring by premeditated, vicious fouling.
The political football game in TT is a sickening sight to watch as self -serving stakeholders commit fouls regardless of permanent fiscal injury at each dangerous tackle. The unions appear ready to stymie the success of Sandals. Scare potential workers up front about salaries? Scare away investors with the fear of severely decreased profit margins?
Tobago will always remain heavily dependent on Trinidad for financial support unless it eschews ignorance and does not allow itself to be manipulated. How sweet the victory if the unhindered acceptance of Tobago Sandals would allow Tobagonians the satisfaction of saying “look at how the money is just rolling in.”
Political football-playing is already evident in the malicious delight expressed each day the Galleons Passage is delayed in its arrival. Why do we hate ourselves so? How many political yellow cards are acceptable as worthy before self-seekers admit that the Galleons Passage and the Sandals hotel project are synonymous with success for both Tobago and Trinidad?
Image is everything. The image of political TT is that we are our own walking and talking red card.
