Family of Palmiste woman ‘grateful’ she survived attack

The relatives of a 32-year-old mother of one, who miraculously survived an attack by an estranged male relative at the family’s home in December, are grateful that she is alive and able to talk and laugh with them.
“We are grateful to God because He is carrying her through all of this. Doctors said she was not supposed to be here. Slowly but surely, she will get better,” a close relative told Newsday on March 11.
She spoke on behalf of the family and asked not to be named.
On December 27, Christine Chadee was badly beaten with a piece of iron at the family’s home on Dalphus Avenue in Palmiste, Chaguanas. She lost consciousness immediately.
For weeks, Chadee fought for her life in the intensive care unit at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope.
“Christine was discharged on January 31. She is walking and talking. The doctors said they are surprised because they never expected her to do those things considering the damage she sustained to her brain,” the relative said.
“The doctors said it would take about two years to see how it heals, if it heals at all. Her memory is hazy, but she remembers a little every day.”
Minutes after the attack, the suspect, Arnold Ganesh, 44, went missing. Days later, his body was found in a forested area off Thompson Road in Palmiste.
He died by suicide.
Chadee’s family is now focused on healing and moving forward.
