Police are investigating a suspected murder after a farmer stumbled on a burnt body in Barrackpore on August 10.

Initial reports said the 60-year-old cattle farmer of Wilson Road, Barrackpore was fishing at a pond just off a field road along Wilson Road around 11 am when he saw a flock of corbeaux flying near a coconut tree.

Worried one of his animals might have died, the farmer investigated and found the burnt remains of a human body.

Sgt Forbes from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations responded along with Inspector Maharaj and Ragbir.

Police cordoned off the area.

The body has not yet been identified.

The discovery came the day after the Hunters Search and Rescue Team found what they believed to be the burnt remains of Dalipram Jadoo, 67, at his Las LomasĀ  No 3 home on August 9. His bones were recovered from a makeshift pyre at the back of his home. Jadoo, a pensioner, who recently suffered a stroke, was reported missing since August 6.

Vallence Rambharat of the Hunters group told Newsday they found a makeshift stone pit with a smouldering fire during a search. One of Jadoo's relatives told them he was burning rubbish. He said the team searched forĀ  five hours but later decided to take a closer look at what was burning.

"Without even having to touch anything, we observed what could have been the burnt remains of a human vertebrae. On closer examination, we began to see fragments of bone throughout the pit."

He said the La Horquetta police were contacted, helped sift through the ashes and discovered parts of what appeared to be jawbones, shoulder bones and others.

He said neighbours reported the fire had been burning since the evening of August 5.

Police found a hammer and several samples of DNA.
