Trinidad and Tobago women’s Under-19 notched their first win of the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars 50-Over Championship by getting past Jamaica by eight wickets at Gilbert Park in California on Thursday.

Batting first, Jamaica were dismissed for a low score of 90 from 30 overs, with Lena Scott (35) top scoring and K. McKenzie contributing 18 from the bat. Both players were the only ones to get within double figures.

TT’s dominance with the ball came courtesy fast bowler Jazz Mitchell’s 3/14 haul, partnered with Samara Ramnath’s 2/6 and Shalini Samaroo’s 2/20; both spinners.

In their turn at the crease, opener Shunelle Sawh top scored with an unbeaten 26 and number four batter Maria La Foucade, 15 not out. The pair made light work of the target and raced to a victorious 92/2 from 19.3 overs to seal their first win of the tourney.

TT’s opening match against Barbados on Tuesday was abandoned owing to inclement weather.
