People, stop the primitive behaviour
THE EDITOR: Crime in TT is the new pandemic. People are scampering, scared to travel in taxis to go anywhere, some even to go out alone. Many others who, thank God, have a visa are scampering out of the country to Canada, the US, England, to some of the other quiet Caribbean islands, and even to Europe if they have the right connections. But for the thousands who are trapped in sweet TT, we have bear and grind it out hoping the nonsense will subside.
And why are people so mean to each other? A bad drive and the driver jumps out to apologise and gets shot up. A quarrel over a woman, a car, a debt, a piece of land, a man, a child, some weed, some cocaine, an injustice, and there is so much discourse.
What on earth is causing the people on these two little islands to be so violent? Is it poverty? Poverty of what? The rule to “eat little and live long” no longer exists. Slow down, people, take it easy, Rome was not built in a day. Live and let live, nah. Behave yourselves, people, stop this primitive behaviour.
Instead, try talking out the issues. Put down the guns, the cutlasses the knives. If you is so angry, take deep breaths, listen to some soothing music on your cell phone, take a shower, take a swim or a soak (the beach is free), hug a tree (the Botanic Gardens have nice ones), go lie down on the Savannah grass, all free for every angry man and woman; cool yourselves.
Let’s live for today to see tomorrow. We all live in a beautiful country and we are beautiful people. Let’s at least try to like ourselves and our fellow men, no matter what.
