Young, Beckles meet constituents ahead of PNM general council meeting
ENERGY Minister Stuart Young spent the morning of January 10 visiting constituents in his Port of Spain North/St Ann's West constituency, while Planning Minister Pennelope Beckles launched a constituency office and disaster response site at Blanchisseuse in her Arima constituency.
At a recent retreat in Tobago, Young edged Beckles 11/nine in a straw poll of PNM MPs to choose a new prime minister under the Constitution to succeed Dr Rowley.
The PNM General Council meets on January 11, after the Central Executive meeting on January 9, where the PNM leadership succession is expected to be discussed.
Young shared several photos on his Facebook page of him visiting constituents in their communities. Sporting a T-short, jeans and sneakers, he is seen variously sharing a light moment with two casually-dressed men, hearing the sincere concerns of a woman with her hand on his shoulder and visiting an elderly woman sitting in the porch of her apartment. He titled the photos: Representing this morning: My constituency. They were accompanied by the hashtags: service, community, representation, blessed, listening, love, respect, honesty, integrity and leadership.
For her part, Beckles posted several photos online of her visit to Blanchisseuse, with the hashtag #PennyontheJob. Pictured with Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh and other officials, she said the new Blanchisseuse Response Centre will also serve as a non-communicable disease prevention centre in her constituency.
"I remain dedicated to serving the people of Arima as a proud member of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago," Beckles remarked online.
The Prime Minister has sought to first settle the succession as prime minister and only then as PNM leader, although some dissenting voices have argued for vice versa.
