Latin night of tequila, Mexican culture

THE Hyatt Regency Trinidad hosted Latin Night 2024, showing off the culture and tequila of Mexico, on November 21.

The event, organised by the Mexican embassy, was entitled Culture and Cocktails.

The embassy staff introduced guests to the cuisine of the country, traditional dances and the best drinks, highlighting tequila.

Mexican Ambassador Victor Hugo Morales said, "We brought together the best of our country with premium tequila, authentic Mexican cuisine and dazzling cultural presentations, creating an unforgettable experience immersing guests in the rich traditions of Mexico."

The evening began with a tequila tasting, showcasing the art and tradition behind one of Mexico's most iconic exports. Guests marvelled at the rich flavours and learnt about the heritage of tequila as a symbol of Mexican identity.

"Mexico is a producer of world-renowned spirits such as tequila and mezcal. We have been actively promoting tequila in TT so that its population can enjoy it in the best way.”

During the evening, special recognition was given to chef Humberto Canales, a proud Mexican whose culinary expertise delighted guests with flavours that complemented the tequila experience.

“Mexican cuisine is one of the best in the world; in fact, it is recognised as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity."

The evening's entertainment was provided by dancer Nalini Akal, who brought traditional dances to life.

Morales also highlighted the collaboration of Michael Hooper, general manager of Hyatt Regency Trinidad.

"It was a true celebration of the strong cultural ties between Mexico and TT, leaving guests with memories of an extraordinary night of tradition, flavour and joy."
