WEST INDIES closed off day two of the second Test against Bangladesh on a modest 70/1, trailing by 94 runs, after dismissing the visitors for a paltry first innings score of 164 when play resumed at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, on December 1.

Bangladesh closed off a rain-affected day one on 69/2 and were clobbered by the West Indies quicks on the second day as Jayden Seales led the bowling attack with the best economy rate (minimum of 60 balls bowled) in men’s Tests since 1978, snaring an unmatched four wickets for five runs from 15.5 overs, with ten of them maidens.

Seales bowling menacingly, and together with rising fast bowler Shamar Joseph (3/49), the experienced Kemar Roach (2/45) and Alzarri Joseph (1/29) dismissed Bangladesh for 169 from 71.5 overs.

Overnight batsman Shadman Islam added 16 more runs to his tally and eventually top-scored with 66 while skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with 36, and Shahadat Hossain 22.

In reply, the maroon played patiently but lost opener Mikyle Louis (12) at the end of the 13th over caught behind by Litton Das off Nahid Rana’s bowling.

Keacy Carty joined his captain and birthday boy Kraigg Brathwaite at the crease and the pair rallied to close the day on 70/1 at stumps after 36 overs. Brathwaite remains on 33 not out (115 balls) while Carty is unbeaten on 19 (60 balls) heading into the third day’s play.

West Indies lead the two-match Test series 1-0 after thumping the visitors by 201 runs on November 26.

A three-match ODI series at Warner Park in St Lucia bowls off on December 8
