Tobago schools win cutting-edge technology

THERE was a kaleidoscope of culture and creativity at the 2024 THA Maypole competition last July.

The top schools received their prizes from the THA's Division of Education, Research, and Technology (DERTech) multi-cultural unit, led by co-ordinator Mickiel Gabriel, during an award ceremony at the DERTech on August 9.

The prizes were courtesy the Digicel Foundation.

In a news release on August 20, the Digicel Foundation said, "The technology resources have been designated for the Visual and Performing Arts programmes at the schools as part of a THA Division of Education, Research, and Technology(DERTech) initiative to enhance technological integration in the arts within Tobago."

The students of Whim Anglican Primary School copped first place, followed by Bethesda Government Primary School in second place and Buccoo Government Primary School in third.

The release said "all three schools walked away winners" with a comprehensive computer setup from the Digicel Foundation that included a wired keyboard and mouse, HDMI adapter, wireless USB adapter, a 21.5 inch Acer Nitro VGO gaming monitor, an Argom Tech multimedia stereo speaker, and a Xtech computer case.

"The three schools will now participate in a pilot project developed by the multi-cultural and curriculum units of DERTech aimed at fostering a deeper understanding and integration of modern technology in the arts," the release said.
