Rain spoils first day of Windies-South Africa first Test
ONLY 15 overs were possible on the opening day of the first Test match at the Queen's Park Oval in St Clair between West Indies and South Africa because of rain.
South Africa were 45/1 a little more than an hour into the day's play when rain interrupted the action. Sun returned to the Oval, but puddles settled on the field, making the resumption of play impossible. At 2.45 pm the day's play was called off.
Tony de Zorzi survived a few testing overs from fast bowler Kemar Roach, before settling down and hitting a few boundaries, with left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie being punished.
Aiden Markram, willing to support de Zorzi, fell just before the rain arrived. After he was bowled by Jason Holder for nine off 34 balls, less than two overs were possible before rain ended play.
The match will continue at 9.30 am on August 8 in an effort to make up for some of the lost time on day one.
Summarised scores:
SOUTH AFRICA 45/1 (Tony de Zorzi 32 not out; Jason Holder 1/2) vs WEST INDIES
