THE EDITOR: I write to express my strong opposition to the PNM government's proposed property tax.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Rowley, TT has experienced numerous financial scandals, increasing poverty and growing injustice and inequality. After nine years under the PNM, there is still no clear path forward for the people of this nation, particularly the common man who bears the brunt of these economic hardships.

Implementing a property tax in such a climate is not only unfair, but also irresponsible. It places an undue burden on citizens already struggling to make ends meet.

Instead of adding new taxes, the Government should focus on resolving the financial discrepancies highlighted by the Auditor General and addressing the systemic issues that perpetuate inequality and poverty.

We need a government that prioritises the well-being of its people, practices financial transparency and seeks to create equitable opportunities for all. Until these fundamental issues are addressed, the imposition of a property tax is not justifiable.
