Trinidad and Tobago U-17s end Day 2 with 38-run lead vs Windwards

The Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 team finished the first day of their two-day Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-17 match vs Windward Islands with a 38-run lead at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva in the final round of action. Opting to field first, captain Fareez Ali's team made light work of the Windwards batting lineup, skittling out the visitors for a paltry score of 110 in their first innings.

TT's Jordan Mohammed was the chief destroyer, grabbing figures of five for 40, as he tore the opposition's middle order to shreds. Mohammed accounted for four of the first five Windwards wickets as they slipped to 69 for five at one stage. Ishmael Ali also chipped in nicely with the ball for TT as he had figures of three for 11 and also got the prized wicket of opening batsman Theo Edward who top-scored with 42 off 82 balls.

With the bat, TT got off to a commanding start thanks to openers Luke Ali and Riyaad Mohammed who stitched together a partnership of 100-plus runs. Windwards skipper Kirtsen Murray used as many as eight bowlers as the visitors tried to fight back, and it was his namesake Kirt Murray who did the trick, taking all four TT wickets to fall on day one.

Mohammed, who struck 51 off 97 balls, was the first to be dismissed, while Luke followed soon after for a well-played 47 off 94 balls. TT ended the day's play on 148 for four after 45 overs as Kirt struck in consecutive overs near the end of play to remove the pair of Brendan Boodoo (12) and captain Fareez who made just five.

Number three batsman Alvin Sonny, who was unbeaten on 20 at stumps, will try to steady the TT ship on day two.

At Gilbert Park in California, Jamaica hold a 25-run lead in the second innings of their match vs the Leeward Islands which saw a whopping 20 wickets fall on day one. Jamaica were bundled out for just 93 in their first innings after being sent into have first strike, while the Leewards were then rolled over for 86.

Ralique Thomas (four for 18) and Dantae Clarke (three for 15) were the pick of the Jamaican bowlers as they assumed a first innings lead. Jamaica ended the day's play on 18 without loss in their second innings.

Barbados, who came into this final round as table-toppers, finished the first day in a position of strength against Guyana, holding an 85-run lead just two overs into their second visit to the crease. Barbados made 172 in their first innings, with Reviera Cottle leading the way with 54 off just 57 balls.

Barbados then restricted Guyana to a lowly 90, with Kyron King (five for 27) and Zishan Motara (three for six) taking eight of the Guyanese wickets. Barbados are batting three without loss in their second innings.
