A BRILLIANT effort by captain Christian Rampersad guided South East zone to a six-wicket victory over Central in the Price Club Supermarket Under-17 Interzone 50-over final at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva on Friday.

Central posted 219/7 batting first with skipper Fareez Ali hitting five fours in his innings of 57 off 64 balls. Saleem Khan also scored a half century with a knock of 54, but he struggled to score quickly as he faced 105 balls.

Bowling for South East, Rampersad was the pick of the bowlers taking 5/41 in nine overs.

In reply, Rampersad was the top scorer lashing an unbeaten 91 off 88 balls with 11 fours to steer South East to 223/4 in 45.4 overs. South East were 96/4 in the 26th over at one stage, but an unbroken 127-run partnership between Rampersad and Aidan Racha propelled the eventual champions to the target. Racha struck four fours in his innings of 50 not out off 56 balls.
