Hillview, Holy Cross in U-17, U-20 East basketball finals

Holy Cross College's star player Jervais Caracciolo had excellent performances in both the U-17 and U-20 semis of the Secondary Schools East Zone Basketball League, to send his team marching into the respective finals.

They will face off against Hillview College in both divisions on Monday and Tuesday at the Maloney Indoor Sports Arena, Maloney.

In the under-20 semi-final, Samuel Edwards led the way with a team-high 34 points for Hillview College to easily defeat Trinity College East 76-56. National U-18 and Trinity forward Ayodeji Iwaro scored a game-high 38 points, but his solo performance was in vain.

Hillview coach Christopher Jackson Charles left the Maloney arena a pleased man as his team will now seek revenge against Holy Cross – the only team to defeat them this season.

In the other under-20 semis, Holy Cross made light work of Five Rivers Secondary winning 63-34. Holy Cross's dynamic backcourt of Caracciolo and Judah Telesford were relentless against their opponents, scoring 18 and 11 points, respectively. Five Rivers's best scorer was Judah Guy who drained 12 points.

In the U-17 semi-final, Holy Cross stopped St George`s College 60-29. Caracciolo once again led the scoring chart with 26 points while Telesford added 18.

The second semis was a much closer encounter with Hillview winning against Five Rivers Secondary 37-27. Hillview`s Edwards had 11 points while Guy top scored for Five Rivers with 20 points.
