Trinidad and Tobago athletes touch down in UK for Commonwealth Games

TRINIDAD and Tobago’s World Athletics contingent in Oregon leave the US en route to the Commonwealth Games’ athlete village in Birmingham, UK on Tuesday.

Athletes and officials will be housed at the University of Warwick, University of Birmingham and the NEC Hotel Campus.

The US-based team of Jereem Richards, Michelle-Lee Ahye, Keshorn Walcott, Portious Warren, Tyra Gittens, Dwight St Hillaire, Asa Guevara, Kashief King, Jerod Elcock and Eric Harrison are expected to touch down in the UK on Tuesday night.

Joining them are TT officials who also represented at Worlds; Charles Joseph, Keston Bledman, Alban Merepeza and Dexter Voisin.

The remainder of TT’s 110-member Commonwealth contingent arrived in Birmingham on Monday.

The Games get underway on Thursday and run daily until August 8. TT will be competing in 12 disciplines – aquatics, athletics, basketball (3x3), beach volleyball, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, judo, netball, squash, table tennis and triathlon.

Artistic gymnast Annalise Newman-Achee gets TT’s Commonwealth campaign rolling on Friday.
