[UPDATED] Third body found off Maracas precipice in 24 hours
Less than a day after the burnt bodies of two men were found down a precipice on the North Coast Road, Maracas, the remains of a third person were found in the same area on Tuesday morning.
On Monday afternoon the burnt bodies of 34-year-old vendor Ako Keon Matthew and a man believed to be 22-year-old Robin Arlington Sancho were found near a shed where Matthew lived and sold his goods.
Officers said the bodies were found by relatives who were searching for the men who have been missing for some time.
At around 8 am on Tuesday, a team of hunters from the Hunter Search and Rescue Group went to a forested slope behind the shed near the Maracas pillars to help search for remains.
At around 9.30 am the hunters got a foul stench and found the skeletal remains about 200 feet away from the road.
Newsday went to the area and spoke with one of the hunters Dese Simon who said the team was called in by the police to help find the remains which they suspect may be connected to the first two bodies.
"The body is badly decomposed. What you're seeing is the bones of the body.
"When we arrived, we got the scent which we realised was a dead dog. But we continued searching the area and, while walking around, we realised there was a different scent.
"The body was hidden and there appeared to be debris on the body itself."
Investigators said they suspect the most recent body was that of a woman who was reported missing with Matthew.
Heavy rainfall delayed officers and crime scene investigators from photographing the area and undertakers removing the body.
Newsday called one of Matthew's relatives on Tuesday but she declined to comment.
Sources said relatives last saw Matthew last Wednesday and a missing person’s report was made on Monday.
Police also said Matthew was robbed at the shed last month and several items stolen.
Last Tuesday afternoon a jogger found a decomposing body of a man in the Heights of Aripo.
The man up to press time on Tuesday remained unidentified.
Police from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region I are continuing enquiries.
