Cop robbed in San Juan, pensioner robbed in Port of Spain
A police officer and a pensioner were robbed in separate instances on Friday evening and Saturday morning.
Police said the officer, who is assigned to the Emergency Command Centre, was robbed of his cellphone on Saturday morning.
They said Eric Yallery, 34, who lives in Arouca, was walking east along the Eastern Main Road in San Juan around 12.45 am when, near the Croisee, a group of men held him up and snatched his Samsung A50 phone, worth $2,350, before getting into a black Nissan Tiida parked nearby and driving off.
In the earlier robbery, a 72-year-old Champs Fleurs man was slapped to the ground and robbed of cash. Police said Peter Williams had just collected $900, which he won from gambling, around 6 pm on Friday in Port of Spain.
As he reached the corner of Independence Square and Henry Street, a man with a short hairstyle, wearing a red T-shirt, walked up to Williams and slapped him across his face, knocking him to the ground. The man robbed Williams of his money and a cellphone worth $600 before running along Henry Street and escaping.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
