Rooplal re-elected head of Assembly of Southern Lawyers

SOUTH-based attorney Michael Rooplal has been re-elected unopposed as the president of the Assembly of Southern Lawyers for another term.

Rooplal was last elected in 2019, but the assembly’s last elections were postponed because of covid19.

The annual general meeting and election of officers and other members of the executive committee were held on March 12 using the Zoom platform, which allowed attorneys to vote virtually.

Also elected, to serve as vice-president, is Marissa Bubb. Shanta Balgobin was elected secretary and Saira Lakhan treasurer.

Kely-Jo Sirju is the assembly’s public relations officer.

The two senior ordinary members are Pavitra Ramharack and David-Mark Kidney, while Brandon Sirju and Laurelee Samaroo are the junior ordinary members.

Vishan Girwar and Antonella Narinesingh are the assembly’s two trustees.
