A 41-year-old WPC will appear before an Arima magistrate on January 25 to answer charges of assaulting relatives at a house, a police media release reported on Friday.

The release said WPC Patrice Clarke was at the home of the victim on September 3 when she got into an argument with him.

The man told police he left the house to defuse the situation, but was assaulted by Clarke when he returned home later that day. Clarke allegedly slammed a door against the man's hand and beat him across the back with a chair.

During the assault Clarke allegedly also threw a cup of cold water on a 58-year-old woman who tried to defuse the situation.

Both the man and woman reported the incident to the police.

On November 12 Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard advised that Clarke should be interviewed and charges put forward.

Clarke was charged on December 16 with assault by beating the man and unlawful assault against the woman by acting W/Cpl Henry of the Professional Standards Bureau.
