Shepherd rescues WI 'A' with 133

ROMARIO Shepherd, with ample support from Raymon Reifer, rescued the West Indies A team on day one of the four-day contest against New Zealand A at Mt Maunganui, on Thursday.

West Indies were reeling on 113/7 when Shepherd and Reifer combined to add 199 runs for the eighth-wicket. Shepherd played aggressively as he struck 133 off 154 balls which included 14 fours and seven sixes. Reifer was willing to play the supporting role as he made 65 off 162 deliveries with six fours.

Shepherd was the last man out as West Indies were dismissed for 322 batting first. Earlier in the innings, Nicholas Pooran struck 46.

Jacob Duffy was the chief destroyer for New Zealand A as the fast bowler snatched 4/47 in 18.1 overs. Nathan Smith (3/37) and Doug Bracewell (2/62) were also among the wickets.

In reply, New Zealand A closed on ten without loss with Glenn Phillips and Tim Seifert at the crease.
