Veteran comedian and broadcaster Errol Fabien has clarified his call for help on social media, saying he is not facing homelessness but is instead calling for help to save the Gayelle television's St Joseph studio.

As of Thursday afternoon, he raised $54,304.

On Thursday, on his Facebook account, Fabien streamed a live video in which he called for help to stop the bank foreclosing on the studio.

Speaking with Newsday, Fabien said while he lived at the St Joseph studio, he has other places he can live, and his calls for help were not for himself.

"I'm just trying to raise some money to save the building that houses Gayelle now.

"I have plenty places to stay.

"We have to get $350,000 to save the building. I live in the same building.

"A number of people have said they will donate money so right now I'm in the process of starting up a Go Fund Me account so we can get some more donations."

In an interview with reporters outside the St Joseph studio on Thursday, Fabien said owing to a poor performance of his business, he has not been earning any money to help pay for his mortgage.

"I have a mortgage on the property and I have been trying to pay. I covered most of it, but I just don't have any income. I have been earning but I have living expenses.

"The value of the propery is way in excess of what is owed. In there has the largest archive of moving Caribbean images and I just hope they don't put those out.

He said he was grateful for the outpouring of support from good samaritans.
